Below are some of the main ways in which
Hydrocable's and Hydrobond's products are applied within a broad range of industries.
Please note however, that we are very flexible and open to any ideas or
suggestions.
Subsea
Control Systems
Hydrobond and Hydrocable have been
involved in supplying cables and connectors for use in subsea control systems since 1982.
With production facilities in Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe, and close
proximity to the major subsea contractors, a good working relationship has been built up
in the industry, both for quality of product and good after-sales service.
The Atlantis connector will also be
available in diver, stab-plate and ROV mateable versions. Hydrobond are in
communication with several manufacturers to hear their opinions regarding what they would
like to see in the connector. This is an example of Hydrobond's R & D
department utilising the manufacturer's/operator's knowledge of the industry, and
developing a connector based on the end user's needs.
ROV
Systems
| With the massive increase in
the size and capability of the ROV industry, Hydrobond and Hydrocable have been involved
in the supply of cable and connectors to several manufacturers and operators, both at home
and abroad, as well as performing repairs to harnesses, termination work, cable splicing
and pressure testing. Both companies are heavily involved in the supply of ROV
tethers and umbilicals, as well as umbilical terminations, from small "eyeball"
inspection vehicles to the industry standard work-class ROV's. |

Hydrobond and Hydrocable are currently
working with several ROV manufacturers in developing the HDM
connector, which is a high density, high pressure connector which is particularly suited
to the harsh working environment that these ROV's are subjected to.
Fish Farms

Fish farms in inhospitable and isolated
areas normally rely on onboard generators for electrical power. These
can be unreliable, if not serviced and maintained regularly, and diesel logistics can be
haphazard in extreme weather. Such problems could be solved if the barge were
hooked to the shore base by an electrical cable supplying power, communications and
constant monitoring of all instrumentation. Hydrocable design and manufacture
specialist cables for the fish farm industry where a constant supply of power connected to
the shore grid system is desirable. Complete with land line communications
from a telephone, video cameras and even fibre optics, the fish farm can be unmanned yet
maintained and monitored from the shore, 24 hours a day. This could benefit
fish farming organisations over a period of time, as costs could be significantly reduced.
Hydrobond also design and manufacture underwater
lights for fish farms.
Hazardous area electrical equipment
The Hydrobond HXD
connector is a high integrity, explosion protected connector to EExd and
EExde. It can be used for power and instrumentation purposes and can be
overmoulded for submersion in water to IP68. The connectors are supplied
extensively to drilling companies, hazardous area equipment manufacturers, and oil
companies and is certified to:-
EN50 014: 1977
EN50 018: 1977
CENELEC certified code EExd 11B T6
BSEN 60529: 1992 Ingress Protection IP67
US COAST GUARD Approval
Naval
Submarine Systems
Navies throughout the world have used the
HRS series connector as well as cable assemblies and
penetrators. Hydrobond Engineering Ltd is a member of the Defence
Manufacturers Association, and supply to all areas of the armed forces, both direct and
through equipment manufacturers.

Underwater
surveillance systems
Underwater cameras, lights and tele-video
equipment are also major users of Hydrobond and Hydrocable products, whether it is low
profile connectors for pan and tilt systems, high density connectors or custom
equipment/cable, we can supply it all.
Sonar
Systems
Hydrobond and Hydrocable have a
long-standing relationship with several sonar equipment manufacturers and operators.
A wide range of customer specified sonar cable is kept in stock, and can be
terminated and moulded within days or even hours, depending on the urgency of the job.
Marine
Research Equipment
One of our main customers over the years
has been various marine laboratories around the UK and world-wide, as well as geological
survey teams and exploration groups. Connector/cable assemblies have been used in the
roughest seas recording fish numbers, and in the Antarctic taking core samples.
Diving
Bells
Hydrobond Engineering Ltd's range of
diving bell penetrators have Lloyds and DNV type approval to 365m and 450m seawater
respectively and come in a range of sizes from ½" to 1 ¾" NPT thread, and from
1" to 1¾" UNF thread, 1-70 circuits. These penetrators are supplied
to the oil and gas, defence and diving industries throughout the world.
Diver Decompressions Chambers
Like the bell penetrators, the DDC type
range from ¾" to 1" NPT and 5/8" to 1½" shank in size.
Communications
Equipment
Because of the wide range of contact sizes
that the HRS and HDM connectors cover, they
can be used on high power and lower power communications purposes. From
twisted pairs and coaxials to fibre-optics, Hydrobond and Hydrocable have the cable and
connectors to suit all requirements.
